About Us

This is the website of Andrew Olivier and Verena MacLean.

Andrew and Verena have a strong belief in empowering people through helping them understand their capability and how this will inform their Working JOurney through Life.

Verena originally an audiologist for children wih special hearing requirements, became involved in the work of Elliott Jaques through Gillian Stamp and was one of four CPA trainers worldwide. When Andrew set up the company Third Foundations Systems, they both became involved in helping companies and individuals benefit from the insights Stamp added to Jaques' work. Andrew and Verena set up BIOSS Australia and Third Foundation Systems changed its name to BIOSS South Africa in 1998. She is highly regarded by colleagues, clients and friends with extensive knowledge and understanding of the complexity based assessment methods.

Both continued to work with Jaques model of capability since his view provides a fundamental understanding of how life works and how it shapes and underlies our Journey.  Many more people should understand these wonderful leadership principles and concepts.  Understanding one's Journey allows a level of understanding to inform the decisions we make when we transition and when we are faced with important decision points in our life.   It is a means to understanding depression, to understanding why things happened and also is predictive in terms of allowing us the opportunity to plan ahead in choosing experiences, skills, knowledge acquisition and roles.  By understanding our capability we also can effectively evaluate our Working Journey decisions about possible roles and career options.   In 2003 Andrew published his book "The Working Journey"

Elliott Jaques leadership principles remove confusion, provide clarity and focus on running effective organisations.  Our thanks to Barry and Sheila Deane who introduced us to these models with such clarity.

Andrew has a strong need to ensure people who are entrusted in electing senior leaders understand  capabillty and what his means for the future of the business and the broader context.   Organisational talent pools can be really effectively managed with a few key consoles, by managers themselves and without lots of HR speak. While this remains a passionate interest he has started to think deeply about how best to contribute to society and how to contribute to the big issues facing us and our communities.

The Working Journey has associations and affiliations with a number of related organisations for the provision of professional services
